Opie takes his morning tea

I challenged myself and actually rendered most of the opossum without turning the page upside down.. brought back drawing exercises from "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain"

  1. Very cool, especially with the whimsical note added by the upside down teacup; of course, I have a special affection for opossums because of my tejano heritage. It's sort of a symbol for tejano culture, because although not attractive, it's a survivor, able to adapt to many changes in its environment. A certain way of dancing a polka (yes, northern Mexicans love the polka) is called "el tlacuachito" (the little possum).

When we did editorial cartoons for Hola Berks, I came up with the ideas, and I often had El Tlacuache Tiburcio (Tiberius the Possum), commenting on the situation.

By the way, only the very young possums can hang by their tails. It simply isn't strong enough to hold even a juvenile possum, but it helps them when they're young and they have to cling to mom.

  2. Thanks Poncho..
Hmmm... an opossum doing the polka... sounds like a great idea for another sketch!
I come from a long line of polka goers also.. the PA dutch variety.
